RBJ Publishes Research Report On Greater Boston Office Market: officeSTATus — Summer 2012

Richards Barry Joyce & Partners Publishes Research Report On Greater Boston Office Market

“officeSTATus – Summer 2012” Shows Continued Momentum In Region’s Office Market

BOSTON – July 16, 2012 – Richards Barry Joyce & Partners, LLC (RBJ&P) has published its quarterly research publication on Greater Boston’s commercial real estate office market.  officeSTATus – Summer 2012 shows continued strength within the region’s office properties.

According to the firm, for the twelfth consecutive quarter, the number of properties that gained tenants in Greater Boston’s office market outnumbered those properties that lost tenants (16% gained occupancy, 13% saw occupancy decrease, in a market totaling more than 1,400 properties).  Additionally, there were several announced leases greater than 300,000 sf in size, which helped maintain market momentum.  Overall vacancy for the market closed at 15.5%, up slightly from 15.3% on negative absorption of 313,000 sf.

“Greater Boston’s commercial real estate office market continues to be a bright spot in the region’s overall economy,” said Brendan Carroll, senior vice president of research, Richards Barry Joyce & Partners.  “The market’s momentum is still good and balances the effect of a few singular events that resulted in negative absorption.  Given certain commitments in the market it would appear that the trend should continue.”

About officeSTATus
One of the market’s leading sources for accurate statistics and insightful analysis, officeSTATus is designed to deliver practical information in a convenient format to enable better decision making.  The quarter’s most significant findings are presented on the first page, in a reader-friendly, bulleted list. The “Economy & Real Estate” section places the quarter’s results into broader economic context.  There are individual pages on each of the primary submarkets – Boston CBD, Cambridge, Route 128 and I-495 – with findings specific to those areas.

This quarter’s “Market Interesting” section looks at the 15-year median rent level and vacancy rate for the various submarkets in Greater Boston.  The final page is comprised of a valuable resource – a single chart with all the pertinent market statistics (vacancy, market size, absorption, availability, and construction data) with historical data.
