RBJ congratulates partner John Lashar on receiving BoMF’s Community Impact award!

Richards Barry Joyce & Partners is very pleased to congratulate partner John Lashar on his receiving the “Community Impact” award from Back on My Feet (BoMF)!  John is an active member of BoMF’s Boston Advisory Board and has been an advocate for the organization since it first began work in the city.

According to BoMF, the Community Award is given to an individual who through his actions and continuous dedication positively impacts the lives of people experiencing homelessness or at risk in the Greater Boston area.  The award was presented this morning at the “BoMF Boston Birthday Breakfast presented by John Hancock” event at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel.

“Over the past three years John has served as the leader of the BoMF Advisory Board Development Committee, establishing the partnerships that have supported the chapter and the efforts of over 300 homeless and 1000 volunteers,” said Victor Acosta, executive director of Back on My Feet Boston.  “John’s energy and passion have incited the board to make the chapter the best it can be and to be transparent and accountable to the needs of the Boston community.

“His approach to development based on relationship building and returning value via funding as investment has begun to become the standard process across all ten chapters of BoMF,” continued Acosta.  “His dedication and leadership have been instrumental in sustaining and growing what has become one of the city’s fundamental services for homeless and at-risk and for this the community is extremely grateful.”

This morning’s inspirational event was hosted by Emmy Award winning journalist and WBZ-TV news anchor Lisa HughesThomas Grilk, executive director of the Boston Athletic Association, was the keynote speaker.  The celebration also featured BoMF alumnus Hector Correa, who shared “The Long Road Home: Hector’s Story”; Shane O’Hara of Marathon Sports, who received the Enduring Spirit Award; and Dick Hoyt, who has run countless marathons and triathlons with his son Rick.

Back on My Feet (BoMF), a national organization with ten chapters in cities across the U.S., uses running to help those experiencing homelessness change the way they see themselves so they can make real change in their lives that results in employment and independent living.  The organization’s mission is not to create runners within the homeless population, but to use running to create self-sufficiency in the lives of those experiencing homelessness. The program’s success is measured by how many Members achieve independence through employment and housing.

We are very proud of John’s work for this terrific organization and applaud him and the other award recipients!
